PCD Carbide Tooling

Fullerton Tool offers  Poly-Crystalline Diamond (PCD) designs which can be applied to special tooling and give our customers the benefits of super abrasive tools.   PCD tooling is typically used in high silicone aluminum (12% Si or >) and composite applications where high wear resistance is needed.  Fullerton PCD tool designs in drills, end mills & reamers provide significant savings over other traditional tool materials.  The design and manufacturing features include:

PCD Carbide Tooling Key Features:

  • Vacuum brazed, Bi-modal grade of Poly-Crystalline Diamond
  • Pressure sensitive point grinding technology for superior finish
  • CNCs equipped with state of the art electrical discharge grinding (EDG)
  • Fullerton’s pyramid point design for drills has PCD across the entire point eliminating wear issues from having carbide at the center.  The pyramid point design reduces thrust and improves penetration.
  • PCD produces high material removal rates producing decreased cycle times and providing more parts per shift.
  • 2-3 times faster cutting speed capabilities relative to conventional tools.
  • Improved work piece quality as a result of long tool life, up to 10 times that of carbide, excellent dimensional control and consistent finishes resulting in minimal scrap rates.
  • Longer tool life results in increased machine up-time, which provides greater production capacity without investing in additional equipment.
